On June 2, 2020, CDO Club Japan held the “CDO Online Summit Tokyo 2020” featuring CDOs and other leaders in digital transformation and data-driven culture. Participation was both on-site and online, with guests and speakers candidly sharing business strategies and challenges caused by COVID-19.
In the opening session, Mr. Jun Kamo, CEO and Founder, CDO Club Japan highlighted the critical, immediate need for c-suite digital and data leaders to drive business continuity, help get people back to work and school, assist the health care system and first responders with timely data, seek more collaboration with colleagues, government, and academia, and to balance economic growth with local and global environmental and social justice concerns.
The next keynoter, Mr. David Mathison, Founder and CEO, CDO Club Global, explained that COVID-19 has forced everyone (not just businesses) to accelerate their digital transformation initiatives. He quoted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadela, who said “We have seen two years worth of digital transformation in just two months.”
Mr. Mathison was followed by Dr. Taro Kamioka, advisor to CDO Club Japan and Professor at Hitotsubashi University, who stressed the need for resiliency and collaboration to achieve sustainable success in digital activities for enterprises.
Later in the CDO round table, speakers discussed the importance of sharing timely and critical data on pandemics, civil unrest, extreme weather events such as tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes, and to collaborate more with partners in tech (google, apple, etc), mobile, telecommunications, health care, emergency responders, government, industry, nonprofits, and academia.
